Sommelier Note

San Andrés — the benchmark maduro wrapper.

The Spanish-language press describes, alongside the Turrents and Santa Clara — sixty people, mostly women, and at least two thousand five hundred cigars a day, says the Diario de Xalapa in 2023 —, the Tabacalera R. Paxtián of Sihuapan, four generations of growers; and outside Veracruz, Cházaro at Ezequiel Montes, in Querétaro, which rolls San Andrés tobacco with artisans from the valley. Don Chicho, of San Andrés, has only one mention: not written.

PREMIUM NICHE — SAN ANDRÉS WRAPPER

Mexico has no Habanos representation but holds a singular terroir with the volcanic “black earths” of San Andrés Tuxtla. The San Andrés Maduro Negro wrapper is among the darkest there is: it ferments without additives, developing a rare softness and unctuousness. The Turrent family has controlled most of the production for four generations.
