La Galana is the manufactory of Annette Meisl, a Cologne woman who was an artists' agent, author and musician before falling, in Cuba, into what she calls the magic of tobacco. She asked a Cuban maestra, Silvia Hernández, to teach her rolling, then learned for years, first-hand, the Nicaraguan and Honduran ways. La Galana was born in 2005; four years later she opened in Ehrenfeld a shop furnished in period style, with a salon.
The cigars are long-fillers of imported Caribbean tobaccos, hand-rolled by torcedoras — the feminine is the house's, which employs women — to what it calls German quality standards. This atlas classifies it in Germany, a country it opens as a rolling place with Dresden and Perlesreut: three workshops, three different stories, one gesture.
A one-person house, in a city with no cigar tradition; its source is the city's magazine. The entry says so, and invents no figures.
