Production

Cigars hand-rolled by Supreme Tobacco S.A.; tobacco grown in Mirebalais, in the Central Plateau

Annual Revenue

No export figure for Haitian tobacco or cigars is published. The FAO profile of Haiti lists tobacco among the products sold and exported, without a volume; the Comtrade data relayed by Trading Economics show, for Haitian cigars, only 10 dollars to Thailand in 2013. In October 2026, the resellers page of Supreme Tobacco lists points of sale in Haiti, in the United States (distribution by City of Palms Cigar Distribution, says the house) and in Germany (Cigar World).

Soil

Land said to be fertile at Mirebalais, irrigated (says Supreme Tobacco)

Sommelier Note

Tobacco is long established on the island: Supreme Tobacco says that its cultivation in Haiti goes back to the Taínos. Under the French colony of Saint-Domingue, it is still grown around 1690, when the botanist Charles Plumier proposes abolishing the Parti du tabac, and cultivation holds out until 1700.

In the twentieth century, the industrial cigarette takes hold: the Compagnie des Tabacs Comme Il Faut is established in 1927 in Port-au-Prince; in October 2026, Wikipedia (in English) says it is owned by Luckett, Inc., of Louisville, and is the country's only cigarette manufacturer. Under François Duvalier, the Régie du Tabac collects the revenues of the state tobacco monopoly; its date of birth and its present fate are not established. The FAO puts leaf production at 558 tonnes in 2024, against 130 in 1961, a series that has been almost constant since the 2000s and is probably estimated.

Hand-rolled cigars remain rare. In 2009, a UN report shows, in Jacmel, the workshop of Yvan Milord, Rocher brand: about 4 000 cigars a quarter, made with tobacco from local growers and sold on the spot. Supreme Tobacco, established in 2015, grows in Mirebalais, in the Central Plateau, and rolls the Bohekio cigars, launched in 2021; the wrappers of Bohekio, of the Maduro and of Colors are Dominican or Ecuadorian.
