Zigarren Manufaktur Dresden is a Cuban's dream: Lázaro Javier Herrera Cabrera, a third-generation roller and tobacco quality inspector in his country, wanted his own manufactory, and he opened it in Saxony, in Dresden, in 2015, with a founding team including Katrin Lieberum. The concept had been written in 2013; the founders' portrait published at the opening tells the rest — public grants that exclude tobacco, a Cuban nationality that complicates loans, and the choice to do it anyway.
The workshop rolls long-filler cigars entirely by hand, as in Cuba: whole-leaf filler, cedar moulds, a wrapper applied by the roller before the eyes of visitors, who may watch him work. The tobaccos are imported; what is Saxon is the gesture. This atlas therefore classifies the house in Germany, which it opens here as a rolling place — a first for a country known mostly for its machine-made cigars.
It is a small house, without trade press in the English-language sense; its source is a Dresden entrepreneurs' journal. The entry keeps to what it says.
