Oskar Nausch, a German doctor from Wuppertal specialising in medicine for developing countries, is the owner and director of Tabacalera Don Esteban, in Santiago de los Caballeros, Dominican Republic, says cigarworld.de. The factory itself was established in 1997 by Peter Rohner for the Swiss house Wellauer AG; a first attempt had failed before Nausch took over its direction, says cigar.ch, which puts output at around 1.2 million cigars a year. Nausch also rolls another brand there, Capadura. The house does not date the creation of Samana.
Samana is rolled entirely by hand at Don Esteban, in several lines. The brand is distributed mainly in Switzerland and Austria, with a twenty-year relationship with the retailer cigarworld.de, which stocks it alongside noblego.de, fumar.ch and zigarrenversand.ch as of September 2026.
