Romeo y Julieta is a brand of 1875; the Altadis U.S.A. page says it was established that year, and Wikipedia names Inocencio Alvarez and Manin García. After the Cuban Revolution and the nationalisation, the brand was moved to La Romana, in the Dominican Republic, according to Wikipedia; the version sold in the United States is managed there by Altadis U.S.A. It is not the same brand as the Romeo y Julieta of Cuba, distributed by Habanos S.A.: the name is shared, the tobaccos and the factories differ.
Altadis U.S.A. holds the brand in the United States (trade press, 3 February 2025). It is part of Tabacalera USA, which Imperial Brands sold to Gemstone Investment Holding (closing expected on 29 October 2020, Cigar Coop); the Tabacalera de García factory in the Dominican Republic was included in the sale of the rest of the world to Allied Cigar Corporation. The American range therefore no longer has a single origin: the house's page (altadisusa.com, October 2026) lists lines from the Dominican Republic, Honduras and Nicaragua.
The Reserve is handrolled in Honduras, at La Flor de Copán (Nicaraguan wrapper and binder, filler from Honduras and Nicaragua); the 1875 Nicaragua is a Nicaraguan puro handmade by Plasencia; the 150th Anniversary of 2025 is made at Tabacalera de García. The house's page does not say that the 1875 (Indonesian Shade Grown wrapper) or the 1875 Reserve Maduro (Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper) are handrolled; they are not in the range.
