Padilla is a tribute to a poet. Ernesto Padilla created the brand in Miami, at the end of 2003, for his father: Heberto Padilla, whose arrest and forced recantation in 1971 entered Cuban history as the Padilla affair, and marked the break of part of the left-wing intellectuals with the regime.
The family came from Pinar del Río, where it owned land and grew tobacco. The name on the band is therefore not a commercial choice: it is the father's, and tobacco is the other inheritance.
That is why this entry is American and not Nicaraguan. Padilla Miami, the house's emblematic range, is rolled at El Titan de Bronze, in Little Havana — the Calle Ocho workshop this atlas already holds, where Cuban torcedores work in small numbers. The tobacco is Nicaraguan, grown by Aganorsa: this atlas files by where the cigar is MADE, not by where the leaf comes from.
Production is spread. Other ranges come from Fábrica de Tabacos Raíces Cubanas, in Honduras, and Padilla Habano from Tabacalera A.J. Fernández, in Nicaragua. This entry is American by its centre, not by the whole of its workshops, and it says so.

Padilla Signature 1932
The year is that of the birth of Heberto Padilla, the poet. It is among the ranges whose production was brought back to Miami.

Padilla Habano
The one that comes from Nicaragua, rolled at Tabacalera A.J. Fernández. The house does not work in a single workshop, and its entry does not pretend otherwise.
