La Aurora is the oldest cigar factory in the Dominican Republic, and one of the few houses in the trade still held by the family that founded it. Eduardo León Jimenes opened it in 1903 in Santiago de los Caballeros, in the heart of the Cibao valley — the region that would become, three quarters of a century later, the centre of Dominican premium production.
That head start counts. When the exodus of Cuban makers after 1960 turned the country into a cigar capital, La Aurora had already been there for sixty years, with its fields, its curing barns and rollers trained on the spot. The house did not have to settle in: it took others in.
The style shows it. Where many Dominicans went looking for mildness, La Aurora kept a firmer medium register, often built on Cameroon wrappers — a signature it held on to when fashion turned away from it. Notes of spiced wood, toasted hazelnut, pale leather.
The range covers several families today, from the everyday to the anniversary series the house releases at every completed decade. The centenary, in 2003, marked a turning point: from then on La Aurora became known beyond its home market.
Tatiana does not belong to La Aurora: it is Miami Cigar & Co.'s brand of flavoured cigars, named after the daughter of its founders and released in 1998 according to the company. In May 2024, a cigar news website wrote that La Aurora produces the blend of the Tatiana Delights, with no added flavour apart from a sweet tip, in Robusto, Toro and Churchill. In August 2026, new Cappuccino and Amaretto formats, in 6 x 44 and in tins of ten, were being shipped to American retailers.

The series that carries the founding year, and the Cameroon wrapper that is the signature of the house: spiced wood, toasted hazelnut, pale leather. A figurado, a shape La Aurora has rolled for a long time.
