Kelner Boutique Factory

Kelner is a name the whole Dominican cigar world knows, and for a precise reason: Hendrik "Henke" Kelner is the tobacco master who founded and ran Tabadom, Davidoff's factory in the Dominican Republic, for more than thirty years. His son, Hendrik Kelner Jr., worked there eighteen years at his side before opening his own, in 2012, at Santiago de los Caballeros: the Kelner Boutique Factory, which the trade calls KBF.

The word boutique is to be taken literally. It is a very small factory, and it was conceived as one — not an annex of Davidoff, but the place where a blender trained in the largest Dominican house makes cigars the largest house would not. It rolls for others: Casdagli had its cigars made there from 2013 to 2016, between Cuba and Costa Rica; Principle makes its own there.

Its own brands are few and signed. Smoking Jacket carries the house's name. The 73 — Kelner Jr.'s birth year — is a collaboration with Privada Cigar Club, an American subscription club.

Another Kelner followed the same road: Klaas Pieter Kelner, of the same family, opened his own factory in the Santiago free zone in 2023. Several factories, one family, one school — Davidoff's, whose entry this atlas carries.

Centaur Cigars is another brand that the factory rolls for a third party: the name is that of Tobias Forst, who took Greek mythology as the theme. In October 2026, its cigars, grouped in the Hero Series, bear the names of heroes, Cheiron, Achilles, Odysseus, Jason, Perseus and Kronos, and German retailers sell them in Toro, with a Toro Grande for Kronos. They are hand-rolled at Hendrik Kelner Jr., at the Kelner Boutique Factory, in Santiago de los Caballeros.
