According to Villiger's blog, the German Gustav Bock Müller (1837-1910), who emigrated to Cuba, founded the El Águila de Oro factory in Havana in 1865; the name Bock, attested on a brand from 1888, stayed attached to him, and Villiger credits him with inventing the cigar band in 1880. The brand declined after Bock's death in 1910 and died out as a Cuban house. Heinrich Villiger rediscovered it and relaunched it in 1999 as a Dominican cigar, through his subsidiary El Mundo De Tabaco, and the house places a modernisation of the brand in 2008. Since then, Bock y Ca. has been rolled at ABAM Cigars S.R.L., a factory run by the exiled Cuban Matías Maragoto, settled in the Dominican Republic since 1996 with his brother José and his wife Aidee, in the Villa Mella industrial free-trade zone, in Santo Domingo Norte — the factory that also rolls, for Villiger, La Flor de Ynclan, 1888 and Corrida; La Libertad was rolled there before moving to Estelí, where a new blend was shown in January 2022.

In 2024, Villiger celebrated the twenty-fifth anniversary of the relaunch with the limited edition Bock Renacimiento 25 Años, rolled by ABAM (halfwheel). The current range comprises, according to cigarworld.de, the Corona Tubo, Robusto, Panetela and Churchill vitolas, with an Indonesian binder and Dominican and Nicaraguan filler, described as a medium cigar with the creamy sweetness typical of the Dominican Republic (Villiger).
