Production

One factory rolling by hand in Harare — about 200 cigars a day in 2020

Annual Revenue

Zimbabwe is one of the great countries of cigarette tobacco — flue-cured Virginia —, and that tobacco makes no cigars. The cigar takes a small share of air-cured Burley there, and imports its wrappers. A single factory, which publishes no turnover.

Sommelier Note

Zimbabwe has grown tobacco for a century and exports hundreds of thousands of tonnes, but it had never rolled a cigar before 2020, when a man back from fifteen years in the United States opened a factory in Harare with a Dominican maestro and a team of women rollers. This atlas opens it for that factory — a country of fields that was not a cigar country, and becomes one on a small scale.
