About 350,000 hand-rolled cigars a year in Moscow (Siglo de Oro, 2021); Pogar on top, unquantified
Annual Revenue
Domestic market only: Siglo de Oro sells in Russia, where about 2.5 million cigars were smoked in 2020. The tobacco comes from Cuba, Nicaragua, Ecuador and the Dominican Republic; Russia grew it in the Caucasus, Crimea and the Kuban, and no longer grows it for cigars.
Manufacturers
- Siglo de Oro (Moscou)
- Fabrique de Pogar (Briansk)
Sommelier Note
Two factories, two ages: Pogar, in Bryansk oblast, has rolled since 1915 on an 1839 site, and survived revolution and war by making cheap goods before returning to cigars; Siglo de Oro, in Moscow, was born in 2011 from the passion of a construction entrepreneur, with Cuban and Nicaraguan rollers. This atlas opens Russia as a rolling place, without zone or variety: the tobacco comes from elsewhere.
