A workshop-boutique in Old San Juan — hand-rolled

No published figures. Puerto Rico was, until the 1920s, a major tobacco and cigar country; for hand-rolling, only one workshop remains today, documented by its own shopfront.

Manufacturers

Sommelier Note

The island grew a reputed tobacco in the Cordillera Central in the nineteenth century, and the Porto Rican-American Tobacco Company, created in 1899 by American Tobacco, consolidated factories and brands there — a matter of law, written in the 1911 antitrust ruling of the United States Supreme Court. What followed is less well documented: this atlas carries neither growing zone nor variety, and leaves to the house its claims about 1506.
