Who rolls in Ecuador, the wrapper country par excellence? Three Guayaquil workshops, described only by the daily Expreso — the Real Fábrica de Cigarros La Clemencia, in El Fortín, of Atiliano Castellano and Eduardo Jurado, about three thousand cigars a month in 2020 under the Guayacos brand; Franklin Coello's workshop, in the south of the city, brands Equinoccial, Libertador and Rumiñahui, sold at the airport; Hacienda Real, of Geovanny León, more than twenty years old in 2022, five people, which once exported to France, Germany and Spain. The Aray group closed around 2015. One source per workshop: they are named here, with no entry while a second source is lacking.

GLOBAL WRAPPER SUPPLIER

Ecuador has no Habanos representation and makes no finished cigars under its own brand: it is exclusively a global supplier of wrapper leaf. The region's natural cloud cover replaces the artificial shading used in Connecticut, and yields a Connecticut Shade wrapper of comparable quality at lower cost. Almost every major factory in the world uses Ecuadorian wrapper.
