A veguero is a tobacco grower — the one who works a vega, the plot. Habanos dates the brand to 1996 and says it pays tribute to the tobacco producers of Pinar del Río; other sources give 1997 (Wikipedia: export by Habanos that year). Its cigars are rolled in Pinar del Río itself, at the Francisco Donatien factory.
The brand's name designates the vegueros, those growers whom the house says it honours. The current range is sold in metal tins of sixteen, according to habanos.com; the trade press describes, in 2014, upright boxes of sixteen or packs of five, and in 2019 square metal tins.
According to the trade press, the range was entirely recast: presented at the Festival del Habano in 2013, it reached shops only in 2014, with a new presentation, three short formats (Mañanitas, Entretiempos, Tapados) and a blend revised for a medium body. The Centrofinos (50 x 130 mm) was presented at the Festival del Habano in 2018 according to the trade press, and announced by habanos.com on 25 March 2019. Habanos describes the strength as medium to full; wrappers, binders and fillers come from the Vuelta Abajo, in the Pinar del Río region, and the cigars are entirely hand-rolled in long filler.
The trade press places it in 2014 in the middle and lower end of the range, at a price level close to José L. Piedra, then, in 2019, among the portfolio's entry-level brands.
Where is it rolled? In Cuba the question has a two-storey answer. Since 2002 each Habanos brand has had a mother factory, responsible for leaf selection and blend, and its cigars may be rolled in any of the island's few dozen factories under the mother's supervision; Habanos does not publish that map, the trade press reconstructs it. The Francisco Donatien factory, in Pinar del Río, where habanos.com places production, is an 1868 building converted into a cigar factory in 1961; the trade press describes it as standing on the former site of a prison and as also rolling Trinidad (2014). In October 2026, habanos.com lists Vegueros, with José L. Piedra and Quintero, among the three so-called volume brands of its twenty-seven brands; the trade press announced this group on 1 August 2019, for a portfolio then of twenty-one brands. The official page dates the brand to 1996; 1997 is the export year given by Wikipedia. The current range comprises, according to habanos.com, the Tapados (46 x 120 mm), Entretiempos (52 x 110 mm), Mañanitas (46 x 100 mm) and Centrofinos (50 x 130 mm), in metal tins of sixteen.
