Tabacalera del Oriente is the factory of Tarapoto, in the Amazonian department of San Martín, and the Peruvian news agency calls it the country's only puro factory. Its dates do not agree: a plantation set up in the mid-twentieth century, says the same agency; a company founded in 1997, says an American columnist; a business about ten years old in 2011, writes a Lima blog — the entry writes them all. What overlaps: it began by importing seeds, leaf and rollers from Cuba, and has made cigars in entirely Peruvian tobacco since 2004. The Lettieri family holds it — Salvatore, the patriarch, Gennaro, the manager —; partners who left before 2011 founded a brand of their own, Café del Mundo.

The fields are at Juan Guerra, fifteen kilometres from town on the Yurimaguas road: 90 hectares in 2016, three varieties — Negro, Pelo de Oro, Criollo — and the possibility, which the Caribbean lacks, of planting all year round. The tobacco sells first as leaf, 80 to 100 tonnes a year to Central America, seven tenths of turnover; the cigars, 500,000 a year in 2016, a million according to the 2023 press, go 80% to export, in Europe and Asia. The rollers are mostly women, led around 2011 by two Cuban masters; an Italian contract of 2011, 220,000 dollars, carried the distributor's brand.

Three brands of its own — Señor de Sipán, under the Mochica mask of the Lord of Sipán, Miguel Grau, San Martín — and a line of puritos. A taster in 2017 found the Señor de Sipán to be short filler; the entry says so, without ruling on the whole range. Peru enters this atlas through this factory, with its Juan Guerra zone.

Inca is not a brand of the factory: it belongs to Mitchell Orchant, director of the British retailer C.Gars Ltd, who launched it in 2012 in the United Kingdom under the name Inka Secret Blend. They are Peruvian puros rolled in Tarapoto by Tabacalera del Oriente. The American version is spelled Inca; in 2015, Alec Bradley handled its distribution. In October 2026, the German shop Tabak Träber sells the Inca Tambo, distributed by Kopp Tobaccos, and British shops offer the Inka Secret Blend.
