Thomas Sontheimer runs T. Sonthi Rum & Cigars in Laupheim, Germany: rums since 2020, then hand-made Nicaraguan cigars from 2022, says the company's website, which presents the two activities as two sides of the same taste for aged spirits and tobacco.
Neither this website nor the retailer Cigarworld.de, which classes the brand among Nicaraguan cigars, names the factory that rolls them.
The range comprises four long-filler lines, all on a Condega binder and filler, forty kilometres north of Estelí, according to Cigarworld.de: Anne Bonny, with an Ecuadorian claro wrapper dried for four months; Blackbeard, with an Ecuadorian viso wrapper fermented for eight months into maduro; Tortuga, in a natural dress and short format; and Luxury-Edition, in a long, two-tone format. The names take up a pirate theme: Anne Bonny and Blackbeard, two historical buccaneers, and Tortuga, the Caribbean island that was a pirate haunt.
