August Schuster GmbH & Co. KG, a family cigar merchant based in Bünde (Germany), traces back to a factory founded by Hermann Schuster in that town in 1897; the current company, meanwhile, was entered in the commercial register by August Schuster on 27 September 1909, says fahr-im-kreis.de — both dates circulate depending on the source, and the house itself favours 1909.
The house composed Rodrigo de Jerez, a cigar whose name recalls a sailor from Christopher Columbus's crew credited with having brought tobacco back to Europe in 1492, says Cigarworld. The brand comes in three lines according to the origin of the tobacco: a green line, rolled Totalmente a Mano (TAM) and entirely in Honduran tobacco, with a dark brown, oily wrapper; a red line, with a Connecticut Shade wrapper over Dominican filler and binder, with a strength described as full; a blue line, rolled in Nicaragua, with a fine, light Ecuador Connecticut wrapper, over a filler blending tobaccos from Panama, Nicaragua and Costa Rica, described as mild by Cigarworld.
No factory is named by the sources found, for any of the three origins. As of September 2026, all three lines are on sale at several German retailers (Cigarworld, Noblego, Cigarmaxx).
