Ramón Allones is, says habanos.com, one of the oldest brands still in production: the house says it was founded in 1837 and was the first to present its cigars in boxes decorated with labels and the brand's emblem. Wikipedia gives another version: a brand created in Cuba by the brothers Ramón and Antonio Allones, in 1845, and “supposedly” the first to use colour lithographs for its boxes, with several rivals also claiming this innovation. According to Wikipedia, the brand changed hands several times before passing to the Cifuentes family.

According to Wikipedia, the firm Cifuentes, Pego y Cía acquired the rights in 1927. Habanos classes it as full-bodied, with an intense and complex taste; every cigar is rolled entirely by hand in long filler (tripa larga), with wrapper, binder and filler leaves from the Vuelta Abajo.

The Allones Specially Selected is, with Gigantes, one of the two vitolas that habanos.com puts forward; Wikipedia gives its size: Robusto, 4 7/8 inches on cepo 50 (124 mm). According to the trade press, it is the best-known vitola in the range.

The brand has carried regional editions (habanos.com): Selección Suprema for Italy and Belicoso for the United Kingdom in 2005 (Wikipedia), then, according to the trade press, Mexico (2021), the United Kingdom (Private Stock 230, 2022) and the Netherlands (2022). The Allones No. 2, presented at the Festival del Habano of February 2019, is its third Edición Limitada (Cigar Coop).

Where is it rolled? In Cuba the question has a two-storey answer. Since 2002 each Habanos brand has had a mother factory, responsible for leaf selection and blend, and its cigars may be rolled in any of the island's few dozen factories under the mother's supervision; Habanos does not publish that map, the trade press reconstructs it. According to the trade press (2011, 2016), its mother factory is Partagás, which also rolls Bolívar, La Gloria Cubana and Quai d'Orsay; habanos.com names no mother factory for Ramón Allones but writes that the Partagás factory, long at Industria 520, behind the Capitol, is now at San Carlos 806, in Centro Habana, in the former El Rey del Mundo factory according to the 2016 press; the date of the move is given neither by habanos.com nor by the 2016 press; Wikipedia places it on 2 January 2012. In October 2026, habanos.com places it among its 27 brands, in the group of five “value” brands (Trinidad, Bolívar, Punch, Quai d'Orsay, Ramón Allones); the trade press announced on 1 August 2019 a ranking of 21 portfolio brands in which Ramón Allones was among four high-value brands. The official page says it was founded in 1837, among the oldest still in production, and the first to dress its boxes with labels and its emblem; all long filler, full in taste, Gigantes and Allones Specially Selected first. The Partagás factory is also called Francisco Pérez Germán by the 2011 press, and Wikipedia applies that name to the former factory on Industria street.
