The Perla de Calvano brand is registered on 28 October 2015 by J. Cortès Cigars N.V., says the Justia Trademarks register, but its first cigar reaches the German market only in August 2025, says StarkeZigarren.de. J. Cortès belongs to VCF (Vandermarliere Cigar Family), a Belgian group that also owns Oliva; the German importer, Woermann Cigars GmbH, itself comes under VCF in 2022.
The cigar, a medium filler, is rolled by hand by torcedores in a large traditional factory in Estelí, Nicaragua, which the house does not name. Cigarworld.de specifies that it is not the Tabacalera Oliva, which VCF also owns, but another tabacalera, a friend of the house.
The wrapper is a Java Besuki from Indonesia, the binder a Connecticut Broadleaf from Honduras, and the filler comes from Estelí and Jalapa. As of September 2026, four vitolas are in the catalogue — Short Robusto, Robusto, Corona and Toro — sold in packs of ten; the strength is rated medium by the retailer Peter Heinrichs, and milder by Cigarworld.de.
