Nick Perdomo Jr. launched Nick's Cigar Co. in Miami in August 1992 (in his garage, according to Wikipedia), without leaving his job as an air traffic controller at Miami airport. The family has Cuban roots: Wikipedia ties it to San José de las Lajas, where his grandfather Silvio came from, and his father Nick Sr. worked at Partagás and then at H. Upmann before leaving Cuba after the revolution. Sources diverge on the Nicaraguan beginnings: the trade press in 2001 places a first factory in Estelí in 1995 and a larger one in 1999, Wikipedia an installation in 1997 replaced in 1999.
In October 2026 the house describes itself as a family-owned, vertically integrated company, from tobacco growing to distribution: headquarters in Miami, manufacturing in Estelí, land in Estelí, Condega and Jalapa. That was not the case in 2001, when the trade press wrote that Perdomo owned no fields and bought its tobacco from suppliers, among them the Perez family of ASP Enterprises in Estelí.
The 20th Anniversary was presented at IPCPR 2012, for the house's twenty years: a Nicaraguan puro of Cuban seed, in Sun Grown or Maduro wrappers, with tobaccos from the farms of Estelí, Condega and Jalapa. The house now also offers it with an Ecuadorian Connecticut wrapper; its tobaccos are aged at least eight years and the wrappers then go into bourbon barrels.
