Three men who had trained elsewhere opened a small factory at Danlí in 2012: Oscar Valladares, his brother Hector, and their friend Bayron Duarte.

What they brought came from elsewhere, and that is what explains the house. Oscar had spent nine years at Rocky Patel; Bayron had some twenty years between General Cigar and Oliva. All three houses are in this atlas — the Honduran scene reads better when you know where its people learned.

Leaf by Oscar is what made its name, and the device is visible before it is smoked: the cigar is wrapped in a whole cured tobacco leaf, removed before lighting. It is not packaging, it is tobacco.

What followed came down to a retailer. Island Jim, of Pittsburgh, visited the factory and brought back a thousand cigars; they sold out in a week. The house has kept the habit of these shop collaborations, several of which carry their names.
