In October 2026, habanos.com lists José L. Piedra, with Quintero and Vegueros, among the three so-called volume brands of its portfolio.

Habanos links the brand to the Piedra family, who came from Asturias in the 1880s and settled near Santa Clara, in the heart of the Remedios region, where tobacco has been grown since the sixteenth century. According to habanos.com, the seven formats are made of Remedios tobaccos, entirely by hand in short filler (tripa corta). The house presents a more modern image; the Petit Caballeros already adopts it, in a pack of twelve and in a display of fifteen sleeves of three cigars.

Habanos gives the strength as medium to full.

Retailers date the brand to the 1880s and say it was withdrawn in the early 1990s and then relaunched in 1996 (Puroexpress, Cigar Keep); habanos.com gives none of these dates.

Where is it rolled? In Cuba the question has a two-storey answer. Since 2002 each Habanos brand has had a mother factory, responsible for leaf selection and blend, and its cigars may be rolled in any of the island's few dozen factories under the mother's supervision; Habanos does not publish that map, the trade press reconstructs it. Habanos.com names no factory for the brand; a retailer (Puroexpress) places production in Santa Clara. In October 2026, habanos.com lists José L. Piedra, Quintero and Vegueros among the three volume brands of its twenty-seven brands; the trade press announced this group on 1 August 2019, for a portfolio then of twenty-one brands. The official page has the Piedra family arriving from Asturias in the 1880s and settling near Santa Clara, and the brand founded by the second generation, José Lamadrid Piedra. The whole range is hand-rolled short filler, with Remedios tobacco only.
