Jas Sum Kral means "I am king" in Macedonian, and it is the brand of a Macedonian who left to make a career in IT in the United States, Riste Ristevski, who decided in 2015 to make his own cigars rather than smoke other people's. The bands borrow from his country's textiles — one of the motifs comes from a photograph of his daughter in a village wedding dress — and the house's tone is its founder's: frontal, a declared enemy of federal regulation.
The house publishes its own factory history, which few do. From 2015 to 2017, the cigars came out of NOA — New Order of the Ages —, the Estelí workshop then run by Noel Rojas, the Cuban blender whose entry this atlas carries: Jas Sum Kral is the fifth house of this atlas to have passed through his hands. From 2018 to October 2024, they came out of Tabacalera Aragón, the factory of brothers Roniel and Roidel Aragón, which has no entry here for want of a brand of its own. On 11 October 2024, after six months spent reblending his lines, Ristevski left Aragón for a third factory, in Estelí — and chose not to name it. This atlas, which writes no entry without a named factory, makes a deliberate exception here: the refusal to name is documented by the house itself, and two factories out of three are named.
The catalogue is Nicaraguan and blunt — Red Knight, Crna Nok (the black night), Tyrannical Buc, Nuggs, Zlatno Sonce (the golden sun) — and the house sells direct, from the factory table, it says, to the customer's door.
