This case differs from the others: here it is Cuba that let the name go.
Simón Veja Peláez created Gispert in 1940 in Pinar del Río, on Vuelta Arriba tobaccos, with a reputation for a light cigar — a rare thing in the Cuban catalogue. After 1959, Cubatabaco and then Habanos S.A. produced it at the Carlos Balio factory, but sales dwindled and the range fell from eleven sizes to a handful. Habanos stopped in 2005.
Altadis had already revived the brand in 2003, in Honduras. It comes today from La Flor de Copán, whose entry this atlas already holds, in two versions: an Ecuadorian Connecticut-seed wrapper, or a San Andrés maduro wrapper from Mexico.
