Maya Selva is Honduran, an engineer by training, and founded her house from Paris — an unusual arrangement in a trade where one rarely sets out from Europe to produce in Central America. Flor de Selva was built from the start for the French and European market, with a profile designed for a palate used to the Havana: medium, woody, without the sweet exuberance the American market favoured at the time.
The house is based in Danlí, in the Jamastran valley, one of the two great Honduran tobacco regions. It works there in measured runs and lays claim to a rare consistency of recipe — the blends move little from one year to the next, which, for an agricultural product, demands constant work on selection.
It is also one of the very few cigar houses founded and run by a woman, in a trade almost exclusively run by men. The fact deserves noting without being made an argument: the brand established itself on its blends.
Range Depth
Flor de Selva Classique
The heart of the house, composed for a European palate: dry wood, hay, a touch of leather, and a year-to-year consistency that is itself a piece of work.
Corona · Robusto
Cumpay
The full-bodied side, darker and earthier, where the house shows what Jamastran can give in power.
Toro
🥃 Pairings
Armagnac
The rancio of armagnac suits dry wood better than a fruitier cognac.
Honduran coffee
A pairing of country: Honduras is as much a coffee land as a tobacco one.
