El Septimo is a luxury brand born in Geneva — founded, it says, in 2005, known first in Europe and the Middle East — and this atlas classifies it in Costa Rica, where its cigars are rolled in a factory it says is its own. In March 2019, Zaya Younan, a financier of Iraqi origin at the head of the Younan Company, a luxury group that owns châteaux and vineyards in Bordeaux and Saint-Émilion, bought it; his daughter Alexandra runs its marketing, and the collection that bears her name, launched in June 2019, is designed for women.
The house claims a great deal, and this atlas reports: that wrapper, binder and filler are entirely Costa Rican, grown and rolled in Costa Rica; that it applies its vineyards' methods to its fields; that its tobacco grows above two thousand eight hundred metres — that last figure the entry leaves to the house, no outside source having verified it. What can be seen without discussion: very high prices, heavy cases, and a fast-moving catalogue — the 2021 Sacred Arts Collection, seven cigars named after artists and the seven days of creation, a hundred and thirty American shops the same year with the ambition of reaching a thousand.
A house that sells luxury before it sells tobacco, which this atlas says without judging, because there are others here — Atabey, a few kilometres away, is one.
