Curivari is a Greek brand of Nicaraguan cigars. Andreas Throuvalas, a retailer in Greece, founded it in 2003 in Europe; it only entered the United States in 2010.
The project is explicit and it is hard: to reproduce the profile of a Havana without Cuban tobacco. The leaves are Cuban-seed criollo and corojo grown in Nicaragua, worked by the traditional Cuban process, and every cigar is finished with a Cuban-style triple cap.
The house does not publish the name of the factory that rolls for it.
The recent ranges carry Greek names — Achilles, Socrates, Aristoteles, Centauro — in tribute to the founder's origin. The older ones keep Spanish: Buenaventura, Selección Privada, Gloria de León. The two series live in the same catalogue, which says fairly well what this house is: Greek in the head, Cuban in intent, Nicaraguan in matter.
Range Depth
Buenaventura
One of the first ranges, and the most widespread. The vitolas are designated by their dimensions rather than by a shape name.
BV500 · BV560 · BV560 Torpedo
Selección Privada
The creamy, woody register of the catalogue. It is the range in which the house's Cuban intent is heard most directly.
Corona · Robusto
Achilles
The Greek series, its vitolas named from the Iliad. The founder is Greek, and he ended up putting it on the bands.
Mirmidones · Gloriosos · Heroicos · Eternos
