Charatan is a London house founded in 1863 by Frederick Charatan, who opened a pipe workshop on Mansell Street, it says on its website. Dunhill developed a cigar under this name in the early 1990s, says the press release of September 2024, according to which Tor Imports Ltd, distributor of the brand, bought it in 2017; the footer of the website, dated 2025, says Charatan is the property of TOR Imports, Ltd.
The current cigars are three lines, Claro, Colorado and Maduro, presented at InterTabac, in Dortmund, in September 2024: the press release says they are hand-rolled at the Fábrica Joya de Nicaragua, S.A., and the house's website says they are crafted in Estelí, Nicaragua. Each comes in Half Churchill, Robusto and Toro, from the mild strength of the Claro to the medium-plus strength of the Maduro, says the house, which also presents a Classic line, without saying how it is made, and machine-made Mini Cigars.
In October 2026, the house's website has these cigar lines; its latest post is dated 17 March 2026. In 2025, the house presented its cigars in the United Kingdom, at the AITS Ignite show, then announced at InterTabac, in September 2025, the international release of the 160th Anniversary, issued in 2023 in 250 boxes of 16 for the British market, and a box set of six Robusto. An article of 16 September 2026 says that this cigar is returning to regular production, with the same blend.
