Chaba

Chaba — Charutos da Bahia — is Fernando Fraga's house in Alagoinhas, in northern Bahia, and it is a piece of Suerdieck that outlived Suerdieck. Fraga had made his career there; when the great Maragojipe factory, which had employed more than two thousand people, closed its last unit in 2000, he inherited some of its brands and kept them alive in his own company, registered on 28 October 1998.

The business press of 2012 tells the rest: eighty employees, then, in 2010, a seizure of production by the health agency for registration irregularities, the closure, and the reopening the following year with twenty-five people. Fraga was then seventy-three. The 2017 lists of Bahian factories still count it, at Alagoinhas.

Since then, nothing: no article is cited after 2012, and the company register says it is active in 2026, at the same address, under the same administrator. The entry is written in the past tense where it must be, and does not claim to know whether rolling still goes on there — that is the atlas's rule for houses that cannot be verified.
