Bering is a name from Tampa. The brand was born in 1905 at Corral, Wodiska y Ca., in the Florida of the great Ybor City factories, at a time when the district produced hundreds of millions of cigars a year and exiled Cuban firms worked alongside Spanish houses.

The Tampa house produced until 1985. The Swisher group then bought the brand, moved manufacturing to Honduras in 1990, built a factory there in Danlí, and sold the whole thing — brand and factory — to Nestor Plasencia in 2002. Bering therefore belongs today to a family already present in this atlas, on the Nicaraguan side.

That is why this page attaches it to Honduras rather than to the United States: it has been made there for over thirty years, and that is what explains its taste.

The profile is classic Honduran, in its most accessible register: wood, earth, a frank burn, without the power of the Jamastran blends. The range covers numerous and often slender formats, a direct legacy of mid-century American habits.
