Barrio Viejo is a brand launched on 29 April 2019 by Thorsten Wolfertz, of the importing house Wolfertz GmbH, in Solingen, Germany, says Smokersplanet.de. The name comes from the old quarter of the same name, in Danlí, Honduras, where Wolfertz meets his growers. It is there that this longfiller, with a Honduran binder and filler under a dark, oily Nicaraguan wrapper, is rolled entirely by hand; this wrapper leads some retailers to list it under Nicaragua. The house does not name the factory, giving only Danlí.

On 1 January 2023, the operations of Wolfertz GmbH passed to VCF (Vandermarliere Cigar Family), following an agreement reached in 2022, says halfwheel; Thorsten Wolfertz remains head of sales, says TRBusiness.

As of September 2026, Cigarworld.de and StarkeZigarren.de list Barrio Viejo in their catalogue: a single line in six vitolas, from the Half Corona (3.5 x 44) to the Churchill (7 x 52), medium-bodied according to Cigarworld.de.
