1502 is the year Christopher Columbus touched the coast of Nicaragua, and Enrique Sánchez Icaza took it as a name because he is Nicaraguan and means to say so. His company, Global Premium Cigars, dates from 2011 according to its own site and 2012 according to the trade press — a one-year gap this entry leaves open.
It has no factory, and does not hide it: its cigars are rolled at Plasencia, in Estelí, the factory whose entry this atlas carries and which also rolls Crux and Blanco. One house in three on this list goes through Plasencia; that is the measure of the family's role in the boutique scene.
The catalogue is arranged by stones and metals — Emerald, Ruby, Black Gold — with an XO above and a plain Nicaragua. The Nicaraguan classification is beyond debate: founder, leaf and workshop are all there.

Cachitos
A Global Premium Cigars line that Enrique Sánchez Icaza says is separate from the 1502 brand: a 4½ x 50 petit-robusto with a Nicaraguan wrapper over a Honduran binder, presented at the 2018 IPCPR but dated to 2019 by cigarandspirits.com in April 2025. A second version with a Connecticut Shade wrapper (4 x 50), rolled at Barreda Cigars in Estelí, came out in April 2025; the factory named in 2018 was Plasencia.
